THOMAS BAKER PAINTINGS FOR SALE & BIOGRAPHY
THOMAS BAKER
British, 1809-1864
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Birmingham, Thomas Baker studied under Joseph Vincent Barber, who introduced him to the Birmingham Society of Arts. Known for his landscapes, Baker shared a similar painting style with Barber, and they exhibited together at the society starting in 1827. Baker's work resembles the old masters in that it reflects an idyllic view of the countryside and its inhabitants. Acutely aware of the market for his works, Baker kept meticulous notes about his paintings and produced many works that depicted recognizable scenes in an idealized style that tended to sell well. His works were displayed at the Royal Academy, the British Institution, and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.
